Then you may be a good fit for Job Corps’ Maintenance Repairer Helper – Stationary Engineering, Pre-Apprentice training program. Pre-apprenticeships are focused on preparing students for a successful experience in a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP). That means your hands-on training will be based on industry standards in order to prepare you for high-skill, quality employment. 

On the job, you will ...

  • Operate engines, boilers and auxiliary equipment  
  • Read gauges, meters and charts to track boiler operations, monitoring boiler water, chemical and fuel levels  
  • Activate valves to change the amount of water, air and fuel in boilers   
  • Inspect equipment to ensure that it is operating efficiently 
  • Record data and keep logs of operation, maintenance and safety activity

In the Maintenance Repairer Helper – Stationary Engineering, Pre-Apprentice program, you can earn industry-recognized credentials and certifications, from such organizations as the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), upon completion of the program. 

Students should also earn a state-issued learner’s permit and driver’s license upon completion of the program.
